Discovery Saturday + Family Workshops
Saturday, August 25th 10-2pm
Discover something new at Discovery Saturdays. These workshops are designed to be enjoyed together with friends and family of all ages. The fourth Saturday of every month, a 90 minute AM and PM workshop will focus on topics such as comic drawing, trying you hand at the pottery wheel and much more. Workshops are led by our teaching artists or science educators and offer a great introduction to the LASC or a unique way entertain family and friends. Drop-ins welcome if space allows. Come early or stay late for a planetarium show and take in our art exhibits to complete the day.

Marksbury Discovery Exhibit | Currently closed for construction. Will reopen September 21st.
Art Galleries | Rules + Play , Deconstruct-Reconstruct with David Arnold, Sonya Blaydes and Darrell Kincer
Maker’s Space | The Science of Flight: Learn all about how things fly! We’ll learn about the science of flight with hands-on experiments then, use those principles to build our own flying contraptions. Take your flying machines and see if you can make it through the aerial obstacle course.
Planetarium | 11am: Earth, Moon, Sun  12:15pm + 1:15pm: Flight Adventure

AM Workshop | Symbolic Portraits with Deborah Slone | REGISTER HERE Bring your friends and family to this fun and interactive workshop! We’ll create portraits of each other and tell a unique story using various drawing media like pencils, colored pencils and markers. We’ll integrate ways to use meaningful symbols to create one-of-a-kind portraits.
PM Workshop | Scrappy Jewelry with Sonja Brooks | REGISTER HERE Have fun and learn to take interesting everyday objects and transform them into exquisite jewelry! Select from lots of beautiful materials like fabric, stones, wood, wire or found objects. You can string them all to create a unique wearable necklace for you to wear or to give as a gift.
