Featuring: Scholastic’s Art.Write.Now.2017 and Words, Memories and Images: The Art of Lucinda Chapman.
Presented for the first time in Kentucky at the Living Arts and Science Center, the Art.Write.Now.2017 National Exhibition showcases some of the freshest and most relevant visual and literary works created by students nationwide in grades 7 through 12. Art.Right.Now.2017 provides valuable insights into what issues are on the minds of teenagers through the Scholastic Awards categories: film, animation, 2D, and 3D artwork, literature, video games and performance art.
In her exhibition Words, Memory, and Images at the Living Arts and Science Center, artist Lucinda Chapman will explore language and memory with a series of new paintings and sculptures presented in the Lucille Caudill Discovery Center’s Glo Gallery this November 17- March 24. With her large scale paintings, Chapman subtly incorporates descriptive words into the compositions by painting between the spaces of the letters and then painting over the whole surface again and again. For the viewer, the text is slowly revealed through prolonged exposure. Alongside her paintings, Chapman will exhibit a series of assemblage sculptures reminiscent of children’s pull toys of the early 20th century.
