Living Arts & Science Center FAQ’s

How do I register my child for a class or camp at the Living Arts & Science Center?

The best way to register for a class or camp is online. If you are having trouble completing your registration, feel free to call our education department, at 859-252-5222, during normal business hours and we can assist.

Register online via our website HERE. Create an account for quicker and easier registration. If you already have an account, please do not create a new one. Members receive a discount for camps and classes. If your membership is not active, you can update your membership during the registration process.

*Payment in full must be made at time of registration. Visa and MasterCard accepted.

How will I receive confirmation?

Once your registration is complete, an email confirmation will be sent to the email provided. You will also be sent an Emergency Contact form and additional information regarding LASC policies and procedures. Your child’s Emergency Contact form MUST be completed prior to the start of your child’s camp and will remain active for one year.

How many students are in each class and is there a waiting list for classes that are full?

Each class has a minimum and maximum number of students. For in person classes, minimum enrollment is generally four students. The maximum number of students varies with each class, but will not exceed ten students in order to ensure social distancing. For virtual classes, the maximum number of students will not exceed 24 students.

The LASC reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment. Some classes may fill, but we will accept students on a waiting list in case of cancellations or additional sections. You must register for the class to be added to the wait list, but you will not be charged unless we are able to add your child to the class.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

A $5 non‐refundable registration fee is included with your registration. If a student cancels more than two weeks before class begins, the student will receive a full refund, less the registration fee. If LASC cancels the class for any reason, the student will receive a full refund, less the registration fee.

Is financial aid available for classes and camps?

The LASC is committed to providing accessible opportunities to learn and to be creative. Scholarships are available and are awarded based solely on financial need. Generally, qualified applicants can receive up to 100% reduction of the tuition fee. Applications must be submitted, with all requested information, before the deadlines listed on the form. You can find a Scholarship Application HERE. LASC tries to accommodate as many scholarships as possible, but scholarships may not be available due to class sizes or other limitations. For more information, please call our education staff at 859-252-5222.

What are the LASC’s attendance policies?

After registering in advance for a class or camp, please follow drop off procedures provided by the Center, found below. All guests must take a COVID-19 pre-screening before entering the building.

Before arriving, please screen yourself and those in your party for any COVID-19 symptoms. If you or anyone in your party answered yes to any of the screening questions found HERE, please stay home and come back to see us another time. Refunds are not provided for the absence of a child. If your child is absent due to an illness, we ask that you notify the center by calling our education staff at 859-252-5222.

If a child is left in our care for more than ten minutes a late fee will be charged for every ten minutes until the child is picked up.

What are your COVID policies and procedures?

We are committed to safe masking, social distancing, hand washing, and cleaning procedures. Learn more about our Covid-19 policies and procedures HERE. Class participants who are not able to follow Covid-19 Guidelines and safety procedures will be sent home and no refunds will be provided.

Class and Camp Specific FAQ's

Will summer camp be offered in person or virtually?

BOTH! We are so excited to offer our first ever hybrid camp model. This summer all in person camps will take place at the LASC from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday, and your child will remain with one teacher and their class for the entire day. We are also offering two sessions of week long virtual camps. The morning session will take place via zoom, from 9:30 am – 12:00pm, Monday through Friday. The afternoon session will be offered from 1:30 pm-4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Virtual camps will be offered for students entering the 3rd grade -12th grade. In person classes will be offered for students entering Kindergarten – 12th grade. We will not be offering any camps geared towards our Pre-K age students, however we encourage you to  join us every Tuesday at 10:00am on our Facebook page for our Pre-K Art day.

Drop Off/Pick Up

Drop Off for classes and camps will look different than in previous years. When entering the parking lot at 362 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., follow the signs and a LASC staff member will greet you at your car. On the first day of camp they will check that all of your child’s Emergency Contact forms are completed and you will be given a Pick Up Placard to display in your car during pick up.

Every day, LASC staff members will do a brief health screening with you and your child. If you answer yes to any of the questions, found HERE, you will not be permitted to attend class. After the health screening, your child can exit your vehicle and meet his/her/their teacher on the designated spot on the front lawn (weather permitting). At 9:00AM, teachers will lead their class into the building.

At 3:45PM, all classes will gather on the front lawn for pick up. When you arrive at the center, please have your Pick Up Placard displayed in your front window and follow the signs in the parking lot. A staff member will radio the teachers upon your arrival and send your child to your car. Please be prompt when picking up your child after class. If you think you will be late, you can notify the staff at 859-252-5222.

Snacks and Lunch

Camps have a mid-morning and afternoon snack break as well as a sixty-minute lunch break. Please do not pack anything with peanut or nut products due to allergies. Classes will have designated locations for breaks so classes will not intermingle. Please pack snacks and lunches that do not require refrigeration. We ask that you send your child to camp with a full water bottle and a small blanket or beach towel. Each child will have a personal bin to keep their belongings. Please label all lunch boxes, water bottles, jackets, blankets, etc. with your child’s name.

Is there a discount for multiple children and/or camps?

We currently offer a sibling discount for members of the LASC. To take advantage of the discount, you must call our education staff at 859-252-5222 before completing your child’s registration. Partial refunds will not be given after registration is complete.

Learn how to, and see all the benefits of becoming a member of the LASC HERE.

Can I register my camper for a camp that is not in their age range?

We ask that you register your camper for their respective age range only.

What happens if my child is absent a day?

Refunds are not provided for the absence of a child. If your child is absent due to an illness, we ask that you notify the center by calling our education staff at 859-252-5222.

Registration/Refunds

We are committed to providing a safe and supervised environment for all campers. We keep parents informed of all situations and do our best to work out difficulties if they arise. If a camper continues to have difficulty adapting to the camp program, or refuses to follow all health and safety procedures, we reserve the right to cancel that individual’s camp session without a refund. A camper’s absence is not transferable to another date and no partial refund is given for absence.

Space is limited, and advance payment is required for all camps.

The Living Arts & Science Center reserves the right to cancel sessions due to insufficient enrollment, in which case a full refund will be issued.

Medical Information

All parents/guardians must complete the Summer Camp 2021 Emergency Contact Form prior to arriving to camp Monday morning. You can either fill this out online HERE or via a form that will be emailed to you one week before your camp dates. This information is meant to help each camper have the best possible experience. On this form there is a section for parents/guardians to write down any health, learning, or behavioral conditions in which your child’s teachers should be made aware.

If your child requires an Epi-pen or inhaler we will ask you to provide a labeled Epi-pen or inhaler for the week. Please note that we do not administer any other medication. In event of an emergency, we will contact 911 and then the guardians listed on the Emergency Contact Form.

For questions of emergencies during camp hours please contact us at: 859-252-5222
