Featuring Rules and Play 2019, Roy Livingston’s X-Ray Visions: Robots 3D, LASC Summer Arts Camp 2019
Rules and Play 2019 is a unique exhibition of interactive installation art created by programmers, artists, and game developers. Organized by the game development collaborative group RunJumpDev, a non-profit organization focused on the development of independent computer games in Kentucky, Rules and Play 2019 will showcase submitted works of interactivity selected by RunJumpDev members. This collaboration between RunJumpDev and the LASC will feature unusual hybrid works that are one part installation and one part computer game. More information on RunJumpDev and the exhibition can be found here.
Roy Livingston has been creating x-ray art for over 10 years on what he describes as an “artistic joy ride.” With his art, Livingston takes viewers on a stage, tangential journey into a world infused in a kaleidoscope of color. He gathers his inspiration from ordinary every day objects. Toy robots, alarm clocks, old radios and vintage power tools all have been digitally morphed into wondrous multi-colored fantasies. He first x-rays an object and then scenes the film into a computer. This is when the transformation begins and the magic happens. Through the process of layering, Livingston’s art develops an interesting and unique 3D side effect. Livingston’s work has been featured in numerous online magazines including Fast Company and Wired. In 2015, Livingston was a recipient of the prestigious Communication Arts Photography Annual Award.
Throughout the summer, students participating in the Living Arts and Science Center’s summer classes make amazing works of art! This summer, the LASC will showcase some of these great works with a rotating exhibition. The exhibition will continually transform as summer classes continue and new pieces are incorporated. The goal of this exhibition series is to feature diverse works showcasing all of the great summer classes at the Living Arts and Science Center.
